great adventure. just wondering: nag teach ka ba sa high school sa NDMU before?
I did. That was in the 90's...
Wow, ayusa oi.. :) I love beautiful places, especially beaches. Hopefully masaag mi dira (me and the family).. Thanks for sharing.
If there was one who really wanted to promote Gumasa, it is me. Hearing much about it from friends, I even asked my daughter to use Gumasa for her tourism development project in school.
We (family of 5) finally got the opportunity to go to Gumasa this summer excited to see the potential of the place that could eventually compete against the best beach destinations in the country.
We eventually settled with ROSAL Resort after a visual check comparing the facilities of the other resorts in the area. The beach was what everyone said it would be... beautiful, clear seawater, white powdery sand comparable if not better than Boracay's.
Settling into the pricey P2,000/day poorly appointed, low class cottage should have given us the clue of the horror that was about to unfold....
- we ordered lunch (no waiters/you have to walk to the commissary to order) but was told that they only had instant noodles, smoke bangus and adobong manok to offer;
- we also found out that we couldn't just order 5cups of rice for the 5 of us since the minimum was 1 KILO!!! (what!?!?)
- I was also flatly told by the store keeper to come back and get our lunch after it was cooked since they would charge an extra 10% if they were to bring it to our cottage (ganun naman yan dapat di ba? masama lang ang pag ka sabi)
- when lunch was finally brought in, it didn't come with plates, drinking glasses and utensils kay may extra charge daw!!! (ano ba yan?)
- Pati "TOYO" we had to buy a whole bottle because it didn't come with the service (ha, ha, ha...grocery yata ang negosyo ninyo)
We all just had to laugh it off, mustering every grain of patience and understanding that we could so as not to spoil our day. You wanna guess how we ate our food that day? it was like a BOODLE FIGHT, ala military style!!! :-)
I'm not discouraging tourists from coming to Gumasa. I just want to say that perhaps it will serve you well to lower your expectations so you don't get disappointed like we were.
It will also serve the area well if the provincial & local government & its tourism agencies can bring in some experts in the tourism, resort & spa industry that can provide seminars to local stake holders. The place certainly has a lot of promise. The beach is far more beautiful than Bali (Indonesia), but the "service culture" are centuries apart.
As for the resort owners, take the "long term" perspective and don't settle for a fast buck. Satisfy your customers and they'll keep coming back. Marketing researchers say that 1 dissatisfied customer will tell 11 others about his bad experience.
MY RATING OF THE PLACE:
OVER PRICED, OVER PROMOTED (for now)
geeme
pupunta kami sa davak ridge, sana maganda at hindi mahal, rooms nila 15OO daw per night
You guys are really having a lot of fun ^_^. i like the pictures in your blog. keep it up. more power. thanks by the way for sharing your experience ^_^.
